TERMINOLOGY
Tanning salons, as well as manufacturers, seem to use a lot of terminology when referring to tanning. Terms such as HO, VHO, and RUVA are smeared all over advertisements and salon brochures. What exactly do all these things mean? Are they important? Well, yes they are, and it is important for you to understand the terms of tanning so know what you are paying for the next time you step into a salon.
Terms such as HO, VHO, VHOR, RUVA, and VHR, refer to the strength of a tanning bulb.
BUILT IN REFLECTOR – means that inside one half of the tanning bulb the surface is mirrored. This mirrored surface reflects much more of the light toward the tanner.
HO is a 100 watt bulb.
HOR is a 100 watt bulb with a built in reflector.
VHO is a 160 watt bulb.
VHOR / RUVA / VHR» is a 160 watt bulb with a built in reflector. (RUVA, VHOR – 24-7 Tan’s bulbs)
What IS RUVA Technology? RUVA stands for “Reflector Ultra Violet A” and it is a very different type of lamp than traditional tanning beds use. Rather than solely rely on the aluminum reflectors inside the tanning bed, RUVA lamps EACH have their own built in reflector. This means the UVA that would normally exit the back side of the lamp (and away from you) is reflected BACK toward the front, before it has a chance to leave the lamp. This is the most significant technology for intense tans, and is found on virtually every tanning bed over $10,000. At 24-7 Tan we use RUVA technology this is why our beds will give you the deepest, darkest tan you have ever experienced in a tanning bed.
